Our Baby Hamper Winner
Hello lovely readers, so, you're probably here because you have a child, are about to have one or are trying to get pregnant. Whatever your reason for visiting And so to Baby we'd like to say a huge 'Hello and welcome'.
We are due to launch on 1st August 2016 and are so excited about sharing all our loveliness with you - we can hardly contain ourselves! In the meantime, we thought we'd share a little bit of what we've been up to on the run up to our launch.
The first thing we have been doing is hunting down fabulously talented suppliers to add to our Directory. Our aim is to promote small businesses who hand make their items, therefore giving you something truly unique and made with love. We have a very strict selection process and if we don't absolutely, totally and utterly love a supplier and the items they make, we won't invite them to be an And so to Baby supplier. We have super high standards, and we can afford to - our tiny island produces so many talented people that we can really cherry pick the best of the bunch. Searching far and wide to find these fantastic suppliers is ridiculously fun and we're absolutely loving every minute of it!
We have also recently had a give away competition which we hosted on Facebook and Instagram. We teamed up with a group of amazing small businesses who offer a range of super-stylish baby and child items to put together the mother of all Baby Hampers. And the lucky winner was lovely the Michaela, currently pregnant with her first baby who is due at the end of July. We thought we'd take this opportunity to share her story.
Hi Michaela, you are the winner of our Baby Hamper Competition, Summer 2016. Can you tell us a bit about yourselves and your bump?
'I am 30 years old and a teacher at a school for children with special educational needs. I met Chris just over 2 years ago and we have been inseparable ever since! Due to Chris having cystic fibrosis we had to have a bit of extra help to make our baby! We had ICSI IVF at the life centre in Newcastle after Chris had an operation and thankfully, despite only having one fertilised egg, we were lucky enough to fall pregnant and are so grateful for our little miracle.'
You're due to give birth to your first baby at the end of the month, how have you found your pregnancy and how have you been preparing yourself for your baby's arrival?
'I feel I've been quite lucky during pregnancy, I had minimal nausea and other side effects. I've suffered with pelvic pain, heartburn and cramp! The worst thing I have found is getting up to go to the toilet several times during the night! I've absolutely loved having a bump, feeling baby kick and wriggle about! We've bought a few bits of neutral clothing, the essentials (crib, cotbed, nappies etc). My friends and family threw me a surprise baby shower and we got so many presents, we are so lucky! I'm sure everyone will continue to spoil baby once they have arrived!'
So you don't know whether you're having a boy or a girl, what style/decor have you gone for in your nursery? (if you have a photo that would be great but no worries if not)
'We went for inspiration off Pinterest, mint green/aqua, lemon and grey with white accessories. We love stars and elephants so they feature heavily. Chris did the nursery with a little help with his second Mam and I absolutely love it.'
As you're nearly at the finish line, what tips or advice would you give to first time mums who have just become pregnant?
'Enjoy every minute!! And make sure you take every opportunity to rest and relax (one tip I have not followed due to trying to finish my Masters Dissertation before Baby's arrival).'
The Baby Hamper you won contains lots of lovely goodies from Ella and The Roo, Emma Neale Handmade, A Little Lovely Company, Lottie & Lysh and Pudding & Chops. Did you expect to win and how did you feel when you realised you had won?
'I never ever expected to win! I was so excited! All the items are so gorgeous and right up my street! I looked straight away to see all the gorgeous things I had won.'
Lastly, what is the thing you are most looking forward to about becoming a mummy?
'Such a hard question! Everything! Seeing this gorgeous little bundle of joy that we created and be able to start a new chapter of adventures in life as a little family.'
